I also found this font in an old German book. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Souvenir light is very close. But the letter ß (german sharp s) didn't fit to the italic. But it's might be a „Zwiebelfisch“ (a missplaced letter from another typeface).

    Bye bye

Uwe, as the sample is most probably (to put it mildly) from before digital type it may be a Souvenir version that has not been digitized.
I have an older version of URW's Souvenir Light (1994) that has that ß. Slanted a bit it comes reasonably close to the sample. So my guess is that there has also been an Italic face of the Souvenir Light with that ß.

    Hi koeiekat,

Thanks! I really hadn't found this third way.

For the fun of it, the ITC ß replaced by the slanted URW ß. No perfect match yet but you can backslant the whole ITC font some 4º and then you are almost there.
Oh yes, the ITC needs some negative kerning to get the same letter-image.

ITC Souvenir is perfect. Thanks so much, everyone!
